Project Description:
Renovation
Through the years, the Jefferson Center in downtown Toledo has been home to many occupants. Built in the early 1900s, the expansive and impressive space was first utilized as a Central Post Office and sorting center. In the late 1960s, Toledo Public Schools purchased the property and used it as several different schools until 2011. The building, placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, sat empty for many years until ProMedica and another partner decided to renovate it.
Lakeside was brought into the project in June 2022 and had tradesmen complete several interior and exterior aspects. The Lakeside team restored original architectural details including the domed atrium ceiling in the lobby and the fanlight transom above an entry wooden door. The exterior stone has been maintained and the interior spaces have been built out with a variety of offices, multi-purpose rooms, and a large community kitchen. The offices overlook a spacious, three story common area that has a stadium seating section where people can gather for presentations or to eat lunch and visit. In addition, a courtyard has been constructed so individuals enjoy the outdoors.
Currently, the building is waiting for its next occupant, and because it has modern amenities with original 1900 restored details, it will be an excellent space for a future business or organization.
