At Lakeside Interior Contractors, workplace safety is the foundation of everything we do. Our team recently completed a 4-hour OSHA training session, reinforcing our commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards in commercial construction across Toledo, Northwest Ohio, and Southeast Michigan.
Training Topics Covered
Drug-Free Workplace – Our drug-free workplace policy ensures a safe, productive environment for all employees and clients. This training reinforced protocols for maintaining a substance-free jobsite and understanding company policies.
Hazard Recognition – Hazard recognition training equips our team to identify potential dangers before they become incidents. This includes recognizing fall hazards, electrical risks, struck-by hazards, and caught-in/between dangers on commercial construction sites. Early identification and mitigation of hazards is critical to preventing workplace injuries and maintaining our exceptional safety record.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Our PPE training covered the correct selection, use, and maintenance of safety equipment including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, respiratory protection, fall protection systems, and steel-toed boots. Our team learned when each type of PPE is required and how to inspect equipment for damage or wear.
Culture and Diversity in the Workplace – Our diversity training focused on creating a respectful work environment where all employees feel valued, regardless of background, race, ethnicity, or cultural differences. This training strengthens communication, reduces workplace conflicts, and builds the collaborative culture that makes Lakeside projects successful.
Learning From Safety and Industry Experts
We were fortunate to learn from industry leaders Greg Burkhart and Erik Johnson. Greg, the Director of Safety and Training for the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Northwest Ohio, works with 350 union contractors and over 14,000 union members for their safety and training needs. Erik, from Ivy Development Agency, is a significant figure in promoting diversity and inclusion within the construction industry, in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. He led our culture and diversity session, providing practical strategies for building inclusive, high-performing teams.

This OSHA training session is part of Lakeside’s ongoing commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.
