Heinz Facility Epoxy Floor Coating System

Lakeside prides itself in meeting customer requests as quickly as possible, and that was recently proven. From customer request to project completion, Lakeside executed a 7,000 square foot flooring project in two weeks!

The Heinz facility in Fremont, Ohio required two things: one, an epoxy floor renovation in their food grade facility; and two, work to be completed during their one week holiday shutdown.

Lakeside called in over 26 crew members and other support staff to remove the existing floor and then prep and reinstall a Tnemec Cementitious urethane, epoxy floor coating system. To stay on schedule, the project required 12-hour days with the full crew.

While completed successfully, the Lakeside team did face some challenges. On day one, the crew had a short window of time to dry the floor after the plant closed down. Active steam and water are a part of the Heinz’s continual operation, and Lakeside had only had a few hours to dry the floor prior to starting.

With plant production equipment still in place, the crew had to hand grind and prep almost 90% of the floor, working around, under, and in between the large Heinz machinery. While large flooring equipment is traditionally employed, the spacing was too tight to accommodate our machines.

Knowing the epoxy floor had to thoroughly dry for 48 hours after installation and before it was ready to withstand the heavy Heinz factory traffic and water, we carefully coordinated our schedule with several other construction trades on site.

We are proud of the Lakeside team who exceeded our customer’s expectations and completed all flooring requirements as well as a few additional requests of the customer.

We completed the project under budget and within the holiday time constraints. Over 500 kits of epoxy sand and resin were mixed and poured during the 6 days of on site work, and the project was completed with zero injuries and 100% PPE for construction and food safety.

Heinz was thrilled to have their system up and running with no extension of their scheduled downtime. They said they have used several other contractors in the past and have not received the quality and efficient service the Lakeside team provided.
